On 3-5 October, international energy experts visited Uddeholm to exchange knowledge on energy issues.
For Uddeholm, collaboration is important to develop and challenge the industry. Our network of experts around the world is constantly striving to create solutions that are sustainable, safe, and long-lasting.
Last week, about twenty experts from the High Performance Division met in Hagfors to discuss energy efficiency. Several countries were represented, including Austria, Germany, and Brazil. The main focus of the meeting was electrification of furnaces, energy savings, and replacement of natural gas with fossil-free alternatives such as hydrogen and biogas.
The visit offered many interesting discussions on everything from geographical and weather-related conditions to energy saving methods. The participants were given the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how the energy needs of the steel industry around the world are being addressed in different ways, and how different countries are working to improve and streamline the energy use.
Thomas Steiner, climate impact specialist and sub-coordinator of the meeting, drew the following conclusions about the meeting:
“The energy efficiency workshop in Sweden was a well-organized and informative event. The host and the organization did an excellent job.
Many important topics for increasing energy efficiency were discussed and good conclusions were drawn. Different frameworks and problems in different locations/countries were also highlighted and showed how different the circumstances can be.
The plant tour was a particularly valuable experience, the demonstration of the effectiveness of electric furnaces in real was an impressive experience for many. In addition, the workshop offered participants a great opportunity to get to know each other and build teamwork.
Overall, it was a very successful and worthwhile event that provided a lot of inspiration and highlighted the next steps towards a sustainable future for HPM.”
