The ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing (ICAM) was held October 30th to November 3rd, 2023, at the Hyatt Regency – Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C., USA.
ICAM 2023 is ASTM’s flagship event related to standardization, qualification, and certification with a focus on industry-specific requirements, addressing the entire advanced manufacturing processes and value chains with 850 AM professionals from 35 countries. Uddeholm was invited by General Motors to speak on the benefits of additive manufacturing in tooling for the automotive and heavy machinery. Berne Högman did a well-attended and appreciated presentation, he explained how additive manufacturing (AM) has emerged for Uddeholm as a promising technology for the tool and die industry, which offers new pathway to solve especially challenging tooling performance issues, which before was unimaginable. Wide range of companies attended his presentation from different industries, example; Caterpillar, General Motors, Eaton, U.S. Army, NASA, Sandvik.
Berne Högman, Director Product Management Uddeholm, presented Uddeholm’s development and efforts in additive manufacturing at the ASTM ICAM 2023, Wasington D.C., USA.
ICAM set the stage to bring experts from around the world to exchange the latest developments in the field of advanced manufacturing with emphasis on the transition of research to application. The impression from the conference is that AM is growing extremely fast in many industries and tooling is one of them, even though it is still in an early stage compared with industries such as medical, defence and aerospace. A big thanks to Uddeholm North America for making it happen and for all support in preparing the presentation.
