New beginnings

The 29th Fakuma, the international trade fair for plastics processing, was a major success. From October 15th to 19th, the industry met in Friedrichshafen, Germany, to present innovations from all over the globe.

At the Uddeholm stand, Team Uddeholm Germany, together with representatives from the mill and a newcomer. Camilla Finnkvist, Uddeholm’s Product Manager for Plastics, was proud to present the start of sales of Uddeholm Tyrax for Additive Manufacturing.

Uddeholm Tyrax for AM provides high tool performance in every detail and should be the obvious choice for plastic applications requiring a combination of corrosion, crack, and wear resistance, such as the production of medical equipment with stringent demands, for example, inhalers, insulin syringes, and test tubes. Uddeholm Tyrax for AM is also a net zero-product.

This is an entirely new product – there’s nothing like it on the market, so it will be very exciting launching Uddeholm Tyrax for AM. With this AM powder, we combine the good properties of Uddeholm Tyrax for ESR with the widely recognised advantages of Additive Manufacturing, such as better precision, significantly improved cooling capabilities, and the best potential for creating hybrid tools.

With Uddeholm Tyrax for AM, we can offer something truly unique on a global scale. Our tests show highly impressive results, meaning we have an incredibly strong product to offer the plastics  market, with the potential to be used in other application areas in the future.

– Camilla Finnkvist, Uddeholm Plastic Manager

The new steel grade received an overwhelmingly positive response from the visitors at Fakuma. But that’s not all. In the booth, team Uddeholm proudly presented the world’s first net zero-tool, made from the world’s first net zero-tool steel – Uddeholm Tyrax for AM.

A heartfelt thanks to team Uddeholm Germany for the amazing days at Fakuma and for you dedicated work introducing sustainable products and environmentally friendly materials. We also wish to extend our eternal gratitude to everyone who made the world’s first net zero tool-steel and net zero-tool a reality.

Stand tall. Be proud. Because we did it. Once again, Uddeholm lead the way – and the world follows.
